The Bahá'í Faith
is the youngest and second most widespread of the world's independent
religions. It is today established in 235 countries and territories
throughout the world with over 5 million people coming from over
2,100 ethnic, racial, and tribal groups worldwide.
We believe that Bahá'u'lláh,
the founder of the Bahá'í Faith (1817-1892) was
the latest in the line of Messengers of God, including Abraham,
Moses, Krishna, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ, Muhammad. The main
theme of Bahá'u'lláh’s message is unity. He
taught that there is only one God; that all the world’s
religions represent one changeless and eternal Faith of God; and
that all humanity is one race, destined to live in peace and harmony.
For more than a century, Bahá'í
communities around the globe have been working to break down barriers
of prejudice between peoples and have collaborated with other
like-minded groups to promote the model of a global society. At
the heart of our belief is the conviction that humanity is a single
people with a common destiny. We believe that "the earth
is but one country, and mankind its citizens."
“It is incumbent
upon everyone to show utmost love, rectitude of conduct, straightforwardness
and sincere kindliness unto all the peoples and kindreds of the
world, be they friends or strangers. So intense must be the spirit
of love and loving kindness, that the stranger may find himself
a friend, the enemy a true brother, no difference whatsoever existing
between them. For universality is of God and all limitations earthly.”
