An invitation to learn about Omagh

Omagh is the county town of Tyrone and its approximate geographical centre. It took over this rôle from Dungannon, in the early 18th century. Now, it is the focus of a district, designated on local government reorganisation in the early 1970s and is the seat of Omagh District Council.

Its town centre was founded in the early 17th century and-since 1993-it is a conservation area. The High Street is presided over by the façade and portico of the magnificent Court House and on several approaches, from a distance the twin, asymmetric spires of the Sacred Heart Church form a distinctive landmark. Both buildings are listed Grade 'A'.

The district is the centre of attractive countryside, the eastern part of which includes the Sperrins Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
